I don’t eat seafood – but this article from the Wall Street Journal today is seriously making a good case for consuming more fish with omega-3 fatty acids.
Sure, we’ve known for a long time that those acids are linked to a healthy heart – but a new study from the Journal of the American Medical Association shows that there may be another benefit of omega 3: longevity. Patients who had high intake of omega-3 had relatively longer “telomeres,” which are the string of DNA that correlate to aging. I may not understand all the medical terms, but getting more omega-3 in my diet is definitely something to consider.
One other article on living longer today…this one from the New York Times. A study from researchers in Australia showed that adults who sat watching television for hours a day were much more likely to die of heart disease – and even just overall mortality.
While fish might help you live longer, being a couch potato definitely does not.
