We already know that the unemployment rate of older workers has skyrocketed over the last decade. Among the statistics, this one: from January 2000 through December 2009, the number of unemployed Americans aged 55+ went increased from 490,000 to 2,114,000.
Alarming.
In an effort to step up and provide resources for unemployed older Americans, AARP is taking part in “Helping Experience Work@50+”! Sponsoring 48 career fairs throughout the year in 19 states – areas where the unemployment rate is 10 percent or higher – AARP is hosting the fairs in collaboration with The Employment Guide.
All of the events are free and in addition to having companies with job openings onsite, will offer workshops for job seekers on marketing yourself at 50+, networking tips, job hunting strategies and more.
Job seekers may register for specific fairs here or call 1-800-540-9745. AARP also offers webinars for job seekers and other resources if you’re looking for work – all here.
