There is this article from Vital Signs in the New York Times to help convince you! Your diet may actually lower your risk for Alzheimer’s disease..
According to a new study, older folks who ate a diet rich in “fish, poultry, fruit, nuts, dark leafy greens, vegetables like broccoli and cauliflower, and oil-and-vinegar dressing” were at less of a risk of developing the disease over a four year period than those who ate a diet higher in dairy products, butter, red meat and organ meat.
Those foods that, when consumed regularly, showed less of an instance of Alzheimer’s disease are higher in folate, vitamin E and omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, and lower in saturated fat than other foods.
While this study doesn’t give a clear-cut, cause and effect of diet and reduced risk of Alzheimer’s, it does give us another reason to fill up on healthy proteins and vegetables…because it sure can’t hurt!
