11 Technologies You’ll Want Now!

This morning, “Technology for Healthy, Independent Living” took the stage at the technology pavilion. AARP Senior Vice President for Livable Communities Elinor Ginzler moderated the panel featuring Laurie Orlov, founder of Aging in Place Technology Watch, and Dr. John Whyte, of the Discovery Channel.
This is not science fiction, says Orlov. These technologies are real and already exist.
Nine out of 10 folks want to stay in their homes as long as they can, and today’s technology can help them do it. This is just as well since the average nursing some costs $80,000 a year and assisted living averages $38,000 annually — quite a dent in the budget of an American family.
Assistive technologies can also help with schedules. There are more than 40 million unpaid caregivers in the United States, who devote around 20 hours each week to helping loved ones. By adding incorporating new technologies, older Americans can become increasingly independent.
With no further ado, here are some great resources that Orlov (@agingtech) shared:

Whyte also mentioned a great upcoming show on the Discovery Channel that was produced in partnership with AARP. It’s tentatively titled “Tech Living: Family Life in a Digital Age.” It will first air on the evening of Nov. 13. It will be repeated on Nov. 20, Dec. 4 and Dec. 11.
