Celebrate Arbor Day and Plant a Tree

Posted By Jen Martin On April 29, 2011 @ 11:59 am In Volunteering | No Comments

I tried to avoid tying this post into the Royal Wedding but with all the fuss today,  it was unavoidable. I won’t talk about the dress or the magical carriage ride through the streets of London. What I did notice about the wedding were the eight beautiful maple trees lining the aisles of Westminster Abbey [1].

Brought in for the special occasion, the trees gave the Abbey a magical, enchanted forest feel. I loved it.

Tree-mendous

Coincidentally, today is Arbor Day. Arbor Day [3] a U.S.-celebrated observance that encourages tree planting and care. Founded by J. Sterling Morton in 1872, it’s observed on the last Friday in April. While most of us will never go to a royal wedding, we can still make our little part of the world magical (just like Kate and William chose to today), by planting trees.

Trees give off oxygen. They breathe life into our world and they serve as homes for many creatures. If you want to return the favor and make your part of the world a little brighter, there are many ways to get involved today and throughout the year. You can search for opportunities
HERE [4].

So let the trees in Westminster Abbey inspire us all to plant trees this weekend!

And on a side note, what was your favorite part of the wedding?
