Music to My Ears: "I Got It for FREE!"
By Jeff Yeager, October 19, 2011 04:44 PM
Economist Milton Friedman famously said, "There's no such thing as a free lunch." At the other end of the spectrum are cheapskates like me, who truly believe "The best things in life are free."
This week's Savings Challenge involves proving Milton Friedman wrong. We've been sharing stories of the best freebies we've ever scored in our Savings Challenge Community.
Some people have won things in a contest. Others have found things on the side of the road. Maybe your favorite freebie is something someone gave you, or you managed to get for free by combining coupons or some other creative cheapskate strategy.
You still have until Sunday, October 23, to enter our Week 3 "I Got It for FREE!" Savings Challenge by clicking here and telling us your story. To be eligible for weekly and overall prizes, you must opt in to the contest rules, which you'll find when you set your monthly savings goal in the green savings tracker.
Looking for free stuff? Heck, a couple of weeks ago I gave you the latest scoop on "free stores" and "free markets" - plenty of free stuff available at those.
And the internet is a goldmine when it comes to freebies. Check out these articles I wrote about some of the best free stuff available online.
Don't forget about The Freecycle Network, either. That's a worldwide network of community based groups that's dedicated to keeping good stuff out of landfills by helping people give unwanted items to people who can use them.
Earlier this week I shared a couple of stories of my own about some of my best free finds, including my trusty bike. This proves yet again that Milton Friedman really needs to rethink that "no free lunch" thing. In the meantime, I hope you'll enter the Week 3 "I Got It for FREE!" Savings Challenge.
