If you want to ease your holiday stress this year, join me by shopping online. Since sales occur daily, you can compare prices and visit multiple stores in your comfy clothes. Enjoy the experience at home or even on the beach using your computer or tablet.
Here are some of my favorite websites to help you send gifts to everyone on your list – including yourself.
For the Techie
BuyVia – If you’re buying a tech or electronic item this season, this site is for you. It compares prices at national, local and online stores. Users can set up alerts (including location-based ones if you want to actually go to the store) for products and individual gift lists. There also are coupons and daily deals. BuyVia has a free app for Apple and Android, which synchronizes your gift lists.
For the Fashionista
Net-a-Porter is the website to find gifts for the luxury fashion lover on your list. Users shop the hottest looks from more than 350 of the world’s leading designers. You can create and manage gift lists as well. Generally no deals, but top-of-the-line merchandise. There’s also a free app for Android, iPhone and iPad.
For Moms and Kids
Zulily is a daily deal website for new moms and kids offering boutique items – all at an average of 50 percent off, according to the site. Users sign up for a free membership and e-mails are sent to your inbox with daily deals. Great aunts (like me) and grandparents can find terrific gifts at slashed prices.
For the Young Reader
Bookworm is a site to help you engage the young ones in your life with books. Selections are organized by age group. Click on Top Lists for recommendations.
For the Hard-to-Buy-for Person
Grommet is a website filled with interesting products that haven’t made it mainstream yet. They say they sell “products with a purpose invented by people with stories.” Site owners also claim to add a new product every 24 hours.
For the Pet Lover
UncommonGoods has a full array of unusual gifts for everyone on your list, but the gifts for pet lovers are outstanding. You can send in a photo of your favorite pet to be placed behind a presidential desk for an “official” portrait. The options are whimsical and sure to delight the dog and cat owners on your lists.
For the Socially Conscious
GlobalGoodsPartners is a nonprofit website that sells eco-friendly, fair-traded fashion, home accessories and more. All are handmade by female artisans in low-income communities around the world.
For the Gardener
Plow & Hearth is my absolute favorite site. For the gardener and “brown thumber” like me, there are hundreds of gifts for inside and outside the home. The best selection of whirligigs I’ve ever seen and also some unusual décor for pet lovers.
For the Foodie
Mouth.com is a site that lets you step away from mass-produced items and find small-batch treats by independent makers. In addition to unusual finds, you can read each cook’s bio. There are hundreds of items and monthly subscription gifts.
