Save Money – It’s Sales-Tax Holiday Time

Posted By Tara Finnegan Coates On July 31, 2014 @ 12:11 pm In Money Talk | No Comments

Back to SchoolIf you’re in the market for a new computer or even just some clothes, you may be able to purchase these items free of local and state sales taxes.

Fourteen states are participating in sales-tax holidays between Aug. 1 and the end of September. Depending on your state’s guidelines (some set a maximum dollar amount on how much you can buy), you can purchase clothing, shoes, school supplies and even computers without paying any sales tax.

Each year the Federation of Tax Administrators updates a list of states that participate in these sales-tax holidays.

In addition to savings on back-to-school items, the FTA also lists tax holidays for buying Energy Star appliances, hurricane-preparedness supplies, and even hunting gear and ammunition.

Check to see if your state participates before reaching for your wallet.
