It’s been just a couple of weeks since the “Ice Bucket Challenge” took off in a big way, becoming a full-fledged Internet phenomenon in the name of ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) awareness.

ALS, often known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain. The Ice Bucket Challenge aims to raise money for the ALS Association, and it’s been working like a dream. “We have never seen anything like this,” said Barbara Newhouse, the association’s president and CEO.

To date, more than a million videos have been uploaded on Facebook, and they’re still coming - from celebrities, professional athletes and politicians alike.

Here’s a sampling:

Lots of Kennedys took on the challenge … even grandma Ethel.
