Is Your Perfume Aging You?

Posted on 11/28/2012 by | Beauty | Comments

Beauty & FashionDoes your perfume make you smell old or tacky? You know what I mean. We pass peers on the street or hug at holiday parties and one whiff says crone, cougar or agelessly delish. This season scents faced by rock and reality stars are booming again.  Not to bash Snooki or Lady Gaga, but they don’t make me think “gotta get this perfume!” And hey, Brad Pitt: Chanel No. 5 Parfum ($120, nordstrom.com) stands on its own fabulous ninety-one year-old …

The Post-Affair Beauty Plan

Posted on 11/21/2012 by | Beauty | Comments

Beauty & FashionFront page love affairs and sexual politics are irresistible but the photos are what really grab us. We root for the wives caught down and dowdy by the paparazzi and boo the new mistresses looking spray-tanned, buff, Botox-d, with extra creepy long manes (extensions?), super-high heels and bright clingy dresses. Beauty & FashionA picture is worth 1,000 words. Any 50+ woman networking on Facebook, LinkedIn or Match.com will tell you so. Our lives, jobs and relationships all depend on the photos we post. But our hair, makeup, clothes, body language and expression get the future friends, mates and employers we want.  The secret is to always look contemporary, confident and approachable and know which photos to use where. Katie Couric, 55, is a star example. Here are the beauty and style tricks …

Makeover Your Cleavage!

Posted on 11/1/2012 by | Beauty | Comments

Beauty & FashionJane does it. So do Meryl and Rita. Some women just know how to work a V-neck! Why hide in turtlenecks all winter when V’s emphasize your shoulders (balancing your hips of course), whittle your waist (hello, illusion) and make your neck look longer and more elegant too? The only possible excuse is what female dermatologists now call “dirty chest.” Before you get all fired up and indignant, take a good look. Do you see a decolletage covered in brown …

Beauty & FashionYou’ve never looked better right?  Highlights, manicure, pedicure, whitened teeth and a wardrobe that rocks. Just in time for new adventures in the 50+ world of online dating. You write an irresistible profile. You’re brilliant at  reeling in “the possibles” and throwing back the losers. You do first-date “auditions” at Starbucks with Oprah-like skill. In fact, getting back into dating mode after a breakup, divorce or widowhood isn’t hard at all… until things get intimate. The idea of romance and …
