The First Hurdle (Category: Financial Security)
Yes, this is a soapbox. I wrote about it yesterday and the day before and the day before that too – the economic stimulus package. Today, the Senate Finance Committee agreed that Americans need help, including the approximately 20 million Americans who live primarily on Social Security and those who are unemployed and facing a tougher time getting back on the job.
What went down today in the Senate was bipartisan, thankfully, which hopefully will increase the chances of success in the full Senate. And AARP will be watching and reporting to its members how every Senator votes tomorrow. That’s more than 39 million members, in case you didn’t know. And you sent over 75,000 emails, faxes and phone calls to the Senate today, so thanks!
Breaking through the gridlock in the House yesterday was also progress. Hopefully the sentiment will extend to see the stimulus proposal all the way through so Americans can get relief and get it now.

CALL YOUR SENATOR AT TOLL FREE 1-866-220-0044 AND TELL THEM WHAT YOU THINK OF GIVING ILLEGALS TAX STIMULUS MONEY, BUT NOT SENIOR CITIZENS ON SOCIAL SECURITY!!!
ARE YOU READY FOR THIS: Today we received word that the house passed an economic stimulus bill last night that would give checks to illegal aliens. Illegal aliens, termed 'Resident Aliens" that have a taxpayer ID number would receive $300 if they just have the number but have not paid taxes with it and $600 checks if they have filed taxes under their ID number.
Illegal aliens should not receive any taxpayer benefits or rewards from the government, since this sends the wrong message and is unfair to US citizen taxpayers.
Illegal aliens send billions in remittances outside of the US. It is unwise to give them stimulus checks because much of the money will immediately leave our economy!!!

I guess I feel to make a comment about the possible checks coming to the American public? Do the illegal aliens get a check also? I am now on SSD since 2004. It took me until 2005 (out of work since 2003) to receive Medicare to help a severe back problem. I worked as long as I could in pain. but when Bush was elected in 2000 jobs were being sent overseas. I was one of those workers (from age 16 yrs old) who had a high school GED but couldn't get much above low wage($6.00 to$7.50) job. I finally found one at $10.00 but the company went out of business. I had foot surgery in 1998 and found out of have a nerve disease RSD and from then on had problems but continued to work. But each time I was out of work I borrowed from my credit card to pay bills because unemployment wasn't enough and it times took a while to get a job;borrowed money from money fund which got me in trouble with IRS. I now owe about $1200 and IRS is adding penalties each month until I pay up. So if I received any money it would really help me because they would hold it back but, it the amount would be eaiser for me to pay them bck. I have called them several times and IRS knows I am on Disability but, that is no reason to let me off from not paying I really tried to keep working but one I almost couldn't get out of bed. I have always had low paying jobs so I knew it would be very difficult to make it because of working all my life but not a high enough salary. So her is hoping that all of us who really need the help can get it. Bush has said he would Veto any bill that wasn't what he first proposed but here's hoping didn't mean it. Thanks for letting me vent it out. I just wished I could have been healthier to keep working for a much longer time.

Our congress give us money only to take more later on!!! For example
Gas prices will hit the 4$ mark by the end of summer!!! You will pay more no matter what!!! Our economy is going down the tubes!!! We will have a recession because of the stupidity of our leaders??
Supply and demand!!! Economics!!! Now, the rule is " the more we make, the more the government takes" Exception! The rich and Leaders of our nation!! They have their own plan!!
The stimulus package will really not work!!! Most will use it to help catch up on oil bills, electric bills, ect!!! The government knows it took too much!!! Yes, it care less about retired people and the poor!!!

Whoopie AARP is claiming a victory so that some, not all, SS recipients will get a $300 check. Now yes I know for many $300 will help.
What AARP failed to do is to realize that tens of thousands of those over 50 are now unemployed. Because age discrimination is still alive and well it is very hard for us to find employment. Yet did AARP even consider to fight for the extention in benefits for those of us 50+ members. No they did not.
We are struggling and it will become much worse when benefits run out. We will not even enjoy knowing that we will receive any check from the government when these needed benefits run out.
Well AARP what are you going to do for us? Oh and to add insult to injury last year was the first time in my life that I made $10 more than the cut off to receive any rebate. Before last year I was out of work for a very long time.

ANY MONIES FROM THE GOVERNMENT, VIA TAX PAYERS, WHETHER ILL LEGAL OR LEGAL IF THEY HAVE NOT PAID INTO SOCIAL SECURITY OR PAID THEIR SHARE, SHOULD NOT BE PAID AT ALL. THIS WOULD BE A SURE WAY TO BANKRUPT THE SOCIAL SECURITY PROGRAM, IF IT IS NOT ALREADY THAT WAY. I HAVE PAID IN ALL OF MY LIFE AND IT IS RUMORED THAT IF THE ALIENS ARE NATIONALIZED, A 65 YR OLD PERSON WOULD GET A LARGER BENEFIT CHECK THAN I AM, PLUS A BENEFIT FOR BEING AN ALIEN. IF THIS IS TRUE IT IS ABSOLUTELY CRIMINAL................OVER TAXED PAYING CITIZEN.....
