President Bush Vetoed the Medicare Bill!! (Category: )
That's right folks, President Bush has vetoed the bipartisan Medicare bill that we've all been watching and working (and commenting on) so intently. Congress worked together to put together a bill that improved low-income, mental health and preventative health programs for people like you...your family...and your friends. The bill would help maintain the access of people in Medicare to their doctors - something every American should have!
With the state of health care already in abysmal condition and millions of Americans lacking health care - it's more important than ever that Congress overrides the presidents veto today. AARP volunteers, members and staff are up on Capitol Hill talking to our elected officials to make sure they do this. It's time for the 355 members of the House and the 69 members of the Senate to stand by their choices and finish this.
Sound off here - or give your elected official a call 1-800-795-5336.

I watched President Bush's press conference this morning and how he he wanted oil drilling restrictions change. We realize that drilling changes now will not be felt for many years. I also got the impression that he was talking down to the press corp and the public. I realize that oil is important to him since his family is so entrenched in the oil industry and Medicare is not important since he and his father are eligble for the gorverment's medical plan but for the average individual it is very important. I am one of the fortunate individuals, in that I can pay for medical coverage through a former company where I worked until I am 65 and will be able to get a supplement plan for Medicare through them. Many others have nothing.
I was sad to hear Bush reply to a question that he was not an enconomist this morning. Shouldn't he be smart enough to have economistson his staff and what is their input and plan for recovery. I have concerns that he really doesn't have his heart in the rest of his time to serve.

This country seems to be going down the tubes! As baby-boomers come of age, we won't be provided with the necessary healthcare we will need. What is the point of science helping us to live longer, if we cannot take care of our health - it's almost cruel!
We won't be able to drive because of gas prices; can't retire because of Wall Street failings, the economy in general and runs on some banks.
Corporate heads cheating their employees of pensions (all with the government looking on!!) We can't keep a home because of felonious decisions by banks and the government. This is just terrible. Comments, please.

I'm a moderate, and I will be looking *very* closely at how my congressional representatives vote on this. We simply cannot have this veto stand. I'm beginning to wonder if Congress is losing its perspective on what it means to be an elder American living with today's high costs. I cannot fathom how someone would veto this, nor can I understand why someone would consistently vote no on having this bill approved.

Dear Prsident Bush, Senator Lugar and Congressman Dan Burton:
I am not a proponent of socialized medicine and am not an advocate of free governenment hand outs, but this is a very critical issue among the senior citizens of the USA. When we find ourselves and our tax money supporting illegal aliens and offering them free health care in our society and the government having bvorrowed from the social security to the point of breaking it, I have a problem with Washington. Why don't the Senate and Congress pay into social security? Why are they exempt from having to be concerned about their long term care and health benefits? Why are they priveledged coitizens?
Frankly we need to clean house in DC and staert over as the health care situations for many of us trying to purchase private insurance is stopped due to our age. We either need to shore up our Medicare and Benfit programs or do away with it and have the private sector provide coverages at a reasonable cost. Now please get with it before Nancy Pelosi and all the Democrats across the aisle screw up things worse. Pass this bill and overide the veto for this critical issue and then go to work straightneing the entiore system out once and for all. thanks for letting me vent. Bill Ernst Carmel, Indiana

I wonder what was attached to this bill? I'm sure that there must have been a bunch of Pork, That seems to me the only reason the President would veto this bill, And you know our legislature,House & Senate, They always attach something to a bill that will pass a vote,
So I guess we need to look at the bill that passed and see what was attached to it, another boondoggle attached I'm sure.

How is it that we can bail out Wall Street each and everytime but we cannot support our less fortunate and help our physicians cope with increasing costs? How is it that we can keep troops in Germany, Japan, and Korea, manage a war that should never have been launched in Iraq, and dole out billions to foreign arms makers, large agricultural interests, and reduce taxes on the global corporations no longer the least concerned with their American markets or workers, but we can't provide either affordable health insurance or care for all of us here in the US. Pray, Mr. President, there is no accounting for our arrogance or our indifference, because you have demonstrated more than your share. I am embarrassed that I allowed my "patriotism and pride" to vote for you twice. Like so many others I put my "faith" in the wrong person.

This idiot stick we have had for President!!! I am so ticked off at yet another of his so called tactics. What does he care about US, the common American citizen who has worked all our lives hard and paid our taxes?
UNBELIEVABLE! But, why am I not really surprised? What worries does he have with gasoline and food and medical bills? WE pay for those also and will continue to do so until he dies. Arghhhhhhhhh!

What the heck, just because he makes millions of dollars a year, he doesn't care about the people of this country. He has always put the USA second when it comes to helping his own country. We can't take care of our own let alone the rest of the world. We have the hungry, disabled older people that need to be taken care of.Take what we have spent overseas and take care of our own. My grandma always what goes around comes around and his is coming.

Please. It is sad enough that our seniors and those that depend on this are the ones effected. We have to be able to those that are not able to help themselves. My mother lives with me because she is unabel to live on the amount she receives from her social security. And now you will be making her find a Dr that will accept SS benefits.
Please!!!!!!!

I can't believe how our health care system has deteriorated. It is such a shame.
I am an Emergency room nurse that knows how awful it feels to have to transfer anyone to another hospital, because of the lack of benefits.Health care professional are overwhelmed already.
I think that I can speak for my colleagues, when I say that this can no longer be dropped down on Congress' list of things to get done.
There are too many patients that have to choose how to spend their money already...
should they buy meds that are important? or food? ;equally important.
I am also a patient with a chronic disease (Crohn's disease) and I am thankful for my benefits, however I cannot afford the changes that seem on the horizon for Medicare.
America needs to take care of those people who can't earn benefits; children, the disabled and the elderly. We have worked for these benefits and deserve them.
I am ashamed of our representatives who don't overturn the President's veto...surely one day they will have family members, as well as themselves to think of.
I pray for us all, and I hope my faith in America is not misplaced.

We have got to override him.
I am disabled and need the care I am getting just like everyone else. I cannot believe how so many benefites to help those who need the most it just keep being taken away.
I was also pre-qualified for down payment assistsnce to move into a retirement community. Now there is no money and HUD is trying to eliminate all these programs too.
If you can please go to www.care2.com. Go to the petition site and sign Another Program Cut forAmerica's Low-Income Families.

Bill Wentlandt says:
Has anyone checked to see what "tag alongs" were attached to this bill that maybe should not have been attached?
Remember Daddy Bush had to pass a bill that added more taxes. The reason was that attachments were added so that if he was to get the bill passed he had to go along with the add ons.
Then the "DEMONCRATS" used it against him in the election.
So please make surer we know ALL th facts before pointing fingers,(you may be pointing in the wrong direction).

Of course, we all should have known that President Bush was going to veto. Now!!! will McCain vote? Will he vote "no." If he does, it will definitely not look very good for his support base, which is the senior citizens. The best advise for the republican Senators will be to overide the veto.

I sent my override veto letter out. It went to Saxby Chambliss, US Senator for GA. I got an automated response telling me that electronic communications do not meet the FPA requirements and for me to call 1.800.234.4208 or go to his website.
I am very frustrated with the government as a whole, just learned that foreign students are paid by our government for all living expenses while here, but our students don't qualify for this help.
Sure do wish someone would get more for the seniors, we really deserve it. It's a shame that we work all our lives and retire in proverty. Thanks for listening.

Walter W. Jones says:
I too saw President Bush on TV this morning. I was shocked he would veto medicare. The rich don't relate to needing this but the rest of us do.
President Bush was indifferent about this with his body language backing him up. His coldness with the press was the usual same.
As a Senior Citizen with limited income, it would be nice to save our dignity and have approval of medicare. We have less in our pockets thus less spending power. This means the economy is hurt too.
Would be nice if Washington cared enough to do something about this. Doctors having a deal with the Pharmacy to push the higher priced drugs and getting gifts is bad enough.
I hope someone will give a darn, Thank you, Walter Jones
