shAARP Talk: Observations from AARP

(Category: Lifestyle)

Remember how President-Elect Obama promised his daughters they can have a puppy when they move to the White House?

He's hardly the first President to have a pet keep the First Family company. AARP TV went back and looked at recent presidential pets. Watch it here:

Personally, it disgusts me that while we have men and women dying in Iraq and Afghanistan, the US media is talking about a dog for the President. I just think that it is a pointed comment on our society when a choice of a pet takes priority over the fall of Wall street, recession, the fall of our car industry, people losing jobs, their homes and their retirements.
I hope this is not going to be the tone for this presidency.

We recently had to have our pet euthanized because of a medical misdiagnosis. He was in three different hospitals before one a specialized hospital, came up with an answer. The cost of the treatment at all three came to almost seven thousand dollars.Fortunately we could afford it. Can you imagine how many dogs & cats are being euthanized today because their owners, especially seniors, cannot afford treatment for their beloved pets.
Someone should look into the exhorbitant fees and mismanagement of veterinary clinics immediately. It seems they are more interested in paying their mortgages than the welfare of the animals being treated. If I knew who to write to I would send the necessary information from our horrible experience.

I had to give up my two beautiful friends (my cats) because I could no longer keep up with the vet bills. THANKFULLY, I found a loving home for them where I can go and visit them whenever I want. God Bless that wonderful family! (If I may say GodBless.)

I too believe the "exhorbitant fees and mismanagement of veterinary clincs" are making it just about impossible for people to properly maintain medical care for their pets.

In these times, unless you have the money these vets & clinics want, it looks like the poor and almost poor who make it from paycheck to paycheck, cannot afford the luxury of having a pet for love and companionship. So very sad.

Anne, please don't take offense to what I've said. I think you know where I'm coming from.
