Sebelius visits AARP to talk Medicare fraud
Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius visits the AARP studio today to address the important topic of Medicare fraud. It's an issue that matters very much to our members, and we're pleased she's taken some time to talk to us about it.
Keep an eye on this post - we're piping in Tweets as they happen from our broadcast studio's account.

Mike D'Antonio says:
What has happened to AARP??? How can you possibly support the Obamacare bill??? It absolutely will steal from Medicare to help pay for this outrageous government-run healthcare bill. I would love to know what Obama promised you for betraying senior citizens. You should all be ashamed of yourselves!

J. Coonen says:
The only good thing about Obama
care is that it has exposed this organization for what it is or should I say what it is not. It is not a organization that supports seniors. It is a organizations that xploits senior for its own benifits. No organization that supports seniors could possible endorse and push for a plan that cuts upto 1/2 a trillion $ form medicare which without any change will go broke in a few years. I hope that all seniors come to under stand that your one of the biggest con artist of the century

Peter Feuz says:
AARP should be ashamed of themselves for supporting the OBAMAcare bills out there right now. Did you even survey your membership - NOT the ones that suffer dementia, those of us that can still think for ourselves. I think you have stabbed us in the back with this support. Sure health care programs need to be reform but NOT taken over by the govenment. Did you folks actually read this latest house bill of over 1990 pages long? It is NOT a freind to all the baby boomers, people currently on Medicare, and future generations. I want my membership to be removed. I'm ashamed to be part of this organization - who paid whom for this endorsement? I'm appalled. I hope whoever made this decision has a crappy day, week, month, life.

Lewis Shapiro R.Ph. says:
Endorsement of the House Health Reform bill will cause untold thousands to quit AARP and I include myself, a member for 29 years. This bill will take 500 BILLION from Medicare at the expense of the elderly, the people you founded this organization with. You cannot justify your decision to me.

Charles Gardner says:
I will be canceling my membership in AARP immediately. What a shame that AARP is supporting a Health Care Reform Plan that our Congress hasn't read, don't know what it costs, and will pay for it with more borrowed money. Surely AARP has people on the board and management that can't be more knowledgeable and unbias in supporting issues for seniors.

aarp lied, misrepresented, distorted and otherwise prostituted its obligation and decptive message to support seniors by supporting the obama health care bill. people will not join. members will resign. aarp will reap the consequences.
"divided we fail"? give me a break! billions in medicare cuts? your organization cares about seniors? wake up Americans! just another exploitive "we care about you" (your money) fraud. quit swallowing this charade, and vote out ANY congressman who voted for this travesty. if you are an aarp member, let them know that you are betrayed and get out.

Gregory P. Smith says:
I am disappointed in AARP's decision to back the recent house passing of the health care bill, however not surprised. I called AARP and spoke with a representative to let them know my feelings via telephone and I will also cut up my membership cards (wife's) and mail back to them. I will not support this organization finacially or otherwise after observing their actions for the past year.

David & Debra Weller says:
It just blows my mind that AARP has been swayed by the big bucks - unfortunately the jokes on them! We want our membership cancelled immediately!
How dare you risk our lives and the lives of others because you're taking away from the people who work hard for we have. You have lied, cheated and stolen - trying to make us believe that you have our best interest at heart - what a joke!

Ken King says:
AARP is now a wing of the Democratic party that has betrayed the interests of it's members.
I am opposed to Obamacare, and now must oppose AARP. I am canceling my membership.

Any organization that supports a US goverment bill that mandates the purchase of "anything" with a penalty of huge "fines" and "inprisonment" if you choose not to purchase, is not an organization I "choose" to be a part of!!!!!!! AARP should be ashamed of themselves, you are not speaking for the people you represent when you go behind our backs and vote for Universal Health Care!! This bill does not represent the Seniors of this great nation nor will it make health care better! There is no way that the government can do a better job than the free market. SHAME ON YOU, AARP...SHAME ON YOU!!!! And by the way, I dropped my membership when you put communist loving harry belafonte on the cover of your magazine!

John Wilson says:
Mandates are very bad. They will enslave Americans to private insurance companies. And the poor folk subsidies will be government subsidies to private insurance companies. This seems close to dictatorial oppression, to me.
Besides, the whole government apparatus for the mandates will be very costly and will involve years of legislation and litigation. We already have a decent mandate system for financing programs in this country, it's called "taxes". As much as we all dislike taxes, we nevertheless have a highly developed system for having our voices heard and contributing to policy. Or are you willing to abandon all control over Congress and the Administration and leave them to Lobbyists and Corporate vested interests?
The solution to our current mess is UHC. Across the board healthcare for all US citizens.
By sweeping aside the extraordinary expense of maintaining the bloated private insurance system we will save a trillion dollars a year. Look at the numbers:
1-the US burden for healthcare is 18% of GDP
2-other modern nations pay about 9%
3-our GDP is about $13trillion per year
So, doing the math (it's not rocket science), UHC will reduce our burden to 9% saving us $1.2trillion per year.
QED.
