AARP in Politico
Check out this editorial in Politico from Nancy LeaMond, Executive Vice President at AARP. She talks about the "sobering" realities that senior citizens face when it comes to health care, and where AARP stands on the issues at hand with health care reform. She discusses the need to close that "doughnut hole" in Medicare prescription drug coverage, and that discrimination by insurance companies must end. LeaMond says:
"AARP has been fighting for years to abolish age rating for the same reasons that we want to end private insurance discrimination based on a person's gender or medical history: because fairness is a fundamental American value, and arbitrary discrimination in any form runs counter to who we are. This year we have an opportunity to make great progress toward ending discrimination and ensuring that those who need affordable, high-quality health care can find it."

Here is an article worth checking out from the Wall Street Journal. It talks about an interesting dilemma: how caring for your aging parents can cause problems in your career - especially when it comes to relocation for that career. The story highlights the stories of three executives who had to do just that - and how each of them tackled the problem and found a solution in different ways.

AARP has sold some of their membership a bill of goods--but hasn't looked into "reading" the proposed panels to "oversee" Healthcare!
This is a real disservice to the membership! a bunch of damned democRAT bureaucRATS to oversee whether or not YOU the SENIOR citizen deserve to have treatment or surgery--truly nothing has been said about a MEDICAL panel. OMISSION?? Where is the $550 billion going to be removed from Medicare?? What sort of provisions are there in the plan except for pre-existing conditions, that would benefit YOu as a SENIOR. AS YET immigrants from obtaining healthcare. And IF and when the democRATS grant amnesty-what then, that is NEXT on their agenda.
BEND OVER SENIORS__AND KISS YOUR MEDICARE GOODBYE!

This article does not disclose the entire truth. Who really pays?
Is this true discrimination or trying to get insurance companies to pass this burden to healthier clients? The stockholders are not going to absorb the cost it will be passed to other consumers.
Let's look at it from a basic business prospect. The reason for charging more is simple risk. A youthful driver has a higher risk of having an accident than a more season driver. If these higher rates were not charged to these with higher risk then these expenses would be passed to the safe drivers. Does AARP consider this discrimination?
Is it fair to charge the same rate to someone that is overweight and smokes three packs of cigarettes a day.
Is it fair that the health consumer must now pay for someone else's unhealthy habits.
AARP should stay neutral on this political issue. I agree heath care reform is needed but the proposals I see I do not like. A foothold to get more tax dollars, rest assured this one trillion price tag will be several trillion before it is over with.
The incentive to work is to have a better life but when this is harder to achieve because that hard earned money is taken away to be given to someone is less fortunate eventually the incentive will no longer exist.

You are backing The Government run Healthcare Bill which puts the Govt in chg of 1/6 of our economy when it already has medicare and Medicaid AND Social security so far in debt we'll never recover. Medicare refuses claims at twice the rate of Insurance companies. This is not about extending coverage - it is about controlling the American people by creeping Government influence. Cancel my Membership. My AARP part D will change this month as well

I and my husband agree wholeheartedly with Ronald Larkin's assessment of AARP. I have been a member since 1990 and feel I have totally wasted my money. You truly are in bed with Obama and either are not aware of his goal to completely dismantle our whole system of government or simply do not care. Please cancel our memberships immediately and DO NOT SEND US ANYMORE PROPAGANDA. We have toyed with the idea of canceling our memberships for several years now as your organization became more and more liberal and out of touch with the average senior citizen and our needs. Your endorsement of the Pelosi/Obama Health Care Bill was the last straw.
