A Caregiver’s Christmas Wish List

Wondering what to give your favorite family caregiver this year? Here is my Christmas Wish List that I shared two years ago. It still holds true so I thought I’d share it with you again this year. It’s a short list – only 5 items…the intangibles that are most meaningful to caregivers. Surely Santa can help with these! All I want for Christmas is: 1. An empathic ear. Caregiving is intense, and new challenges arise every single day. Even if they …

Dogs In Christmas Sweaters: Just What Are We Celebrating?

Scrooge Alert! I found myself roaming around a pet store today oblivious to the festiveness going on around me. Had the beagles in tow, so my task was to get their favorite treats and food, then get out. Dredging our way to the checkout line I saw it: an entire aisle dedicated to Christmas apparel for dogs. Of course this isn’t the first time I’ve seen this; each year I go out of my way to avoid it. Gaudy sweaters, tacky jackets …

Soda Can to Star? Yes! Fun and Frugal Holiday Decorations

As the days grow shorter and the nights get colder, I spend a lot of time in the evenings hunkered down next to the wood stove, reading or tinkering with various craft projects. Of course, I particularly love any craft that lets me recycle something that would otherwise end up in the trash. I call it “creative repurposing.” Here are three simple, fun holiday craft projects that make good use of would-be throw away items and let you deck the halls …

Let your Expectations of this Upcoming Season Be the Unexpected

How was your Thanksgiving? I hope it was memorable. Ours was one of the best ever. We all loaded up and headed to Baltimore because the NFL decided the Ravens would play on Thanksgiving night. Now, I was perfectly happy about this scheduling as not only did I not have to cook, I didn’t even have to drive around and pick up food. It was just perfect. I told SJ, “You can either have a game dog or chicken tenders, and …
