Runners Pause to Honor 95-Year-Old WW II Vet During Race - Video

Runners in an 8-kilometer race in San Jose, Calif., on Sunday stopped to honor a World War II veteran watching the event in uniform, the San Jose Mercury News reports.

Joe Bell, 95, was on the street encouraging participants in the race. You can see one or two runners shake his hand and thank him for his service. Then at least half the runners seem to detour toward the vet.

The event raises money for the Pat Tillman Foundation, which funds scholarships for military veterans and their spouses. Tillman, an NFL quarterback with the Arizona Cardinals, left football to join the Army Rangers in 2002, and was killed by friendly fire in April 2004 in Afghanistan. He was from San Jose.

This video, by Julia Prodis Sulek, was broadcast on The Today Show Tuesday.
