AARP Community Challenge 2017: Lexington, Kentucky

The AARP Community Challenge funds “quick action” projects that build momentum for local change to improve livability for people of all ages.

PROJECT: Install ADA-accessible benches and raised bed-planters

“Today’s grand opening is one that’s going to serve Lexington for decades to come,” said Scott Wegenast, associate state director of AARP Kentucky, during an unveiling ceremony in Idle Hour Park, which is located next to the city’s senior center. The placement of the seating makes the benches especially user-friendly since people can choose whether to sit next to or across from one another, and each set of benches includes space for a wheelchair user.
