AARP Community Challenge 2017: St. Louis, Missouri

The AARP Community Challenge  funds “quick-action” projects that build momentum for local change to improve livability for people of all ages.

PROJECT: Using pop-up demonstrations to imagine improved public transit spaces

St. Louis’ transit system covers 46 miles and and hosts 37 stations of light-rail and interconnected bus systems. A one-day pop-up market in the North Hanley Station’s massive, underused parking helped the community see how the space could be better used. The event featured dining and retail options, Tai Chi sessions and entertainment. Attendees were asked to share their ideas for the space and, if they chose, use LEGO blocks to create a model of the lot’s possibilities.
