The midterm elections are some 25 days away. And there are now 54 million smart speakers in the U.S. with more being purchased each day. In response, AARP has an innovative new "Raise Your Voice" smart speaker app designed to increase civic engagement of voters age 50 and older.
New AARP research shows that people of all ages are using technology to keep in touch with friends and family. The way people use their devices differ somewhat based on whether they are in their 50s, 60s, 70s, etc. The full survey can be accessed here.
AARP has named HomeExcept Inc. the grand prize winner of the AARP Innovation Champion Awards competition. The team was awarded $10,000 in cash for designing a home care sensor that allows caregivers to monitor loved ones by using thermal sensors to track movement.
It’s clear that a majority of people want to remain independent as they age, and now technology can help them do so. As a Northern Virginia resident and an employee of AARP, I was drawn to a recent local event titled “ Can Technology Help Older Arlingtonians Age Independently?”
The day has finally come — the AARP Innovation@50+ LivePitch competition!
