Watch These Celebrities Take on the Ice Bucket Challenge

It's been just a couple of weeks since the "Ice Bucket Challenge" took off in a big way, becoming a full-fledged Internet phenomenon in the name of ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) awareness.

ALS, often known as Lou Gehrig's disease, is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain. The Ice Bucket Challenge aims to raise money for the ALS Association, and it's been working like a dream. "We have never seen anything like this," said Barbara Newhouse, the association's president and CEO.

To date, more than a million videos have been uploaded on Facebook, and they're still coming - from celebrities, professional athletes and politicians alike.

Here's a sampling:

Lots of Kennedys took on the challenge ... even grandma Ethel.

Martha Stewart got her dose of ice water.

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie joined in with the help of his two kids.

Matt Lauer did his part on NBC's Today show.

NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman took to the ice, too.

Mickey Rourke donned goggles to accept his challenge on the Seth Myers show.

While he may not have understood the basis of the challenge, Conan O'Brien still did his part for ALS.

And last (but certainly not least), Bill Gates honored his challenge.
