The AARP Real Possibilities Virtual Career Fair will feature employers that have signed the Life Reimagined for Work pledge, which says they value experienced workers. Companies scheduled to participate include Abt Associates, AlliedBarton, American Red Cross, AT&T, BB&T Bank, Blue Buffalo Ltd., Coconino County (Ariz.), Elite Senior Home Care, Express Employment Professionals, First Student, Monongalia Health System, Rover.com, Securitas Security Services and Work at Home Vintage Employees.
These companies are hiring and are looking to fill positions from security guard to research professional to marketing product specialist.
"This virtual career fair offers a lot of different ways to connect to employers in real time, and being able to do all this from the comfort of your own home makes it convenient," says Ed Redfern Jr. of AARP, one of the event organizers. "This gives people an environment to really prepare for interaction with the employer. I encourage people to do their research on the employers and jobs and get some background information before the event."
Along with allowing job seekers to chat with company representatives, the career fair will have live chats with Redfern; Phyllis Snyder, vice president of the Council for Adult and Experiential Learning; and AARP work expert and columnist Kerry Hannon.
Registration is free and open through June 3. When you receive your confirmation, you'll get a link to check your computer to make sure you'll be able to view and fully participate in the career fair. Online technical support will also be available during the event. Afterward, you will be able to access chat transcripts, tip sheets and job descriptions for 30 days.
