The actress Rue McClanahan passed away yesterday at the age of 76. She will always be remembered for her groundbreaking role as Blanche Devereaux on Golden Girls. Samitha at Feministing said it best: "Her character... forced the TV watching public to deal with a very sexually confident older woman who was rocking out with the post-menopausal hook-ups."
