Free Financial Advice? What's Not to Like?

Retiree couple getting financial advice

Need financial advice on estate planning, retirement savings or something else? You can get it for free.

From Sept. 27 through Nov. 8, hundreds of financial planners will be available to meet one-on-one with people in 25 cities in an annual event called Financial Planning Days. The initiative, in its fifth year, is sponsored by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, the Financial Planning Association, the Foundation for Financial Planning and the U.S. Conference of Mayors.

Financial planners will be on hand at schools, municipal buildings and libraries to meet with individuals and couples about budgeting and savings, getting out of debt, income taxes, estate planning, retirement planning, insurance and other topics. They’ll also put on workshops covering these issues.

No need to wonder about whether they’ll be pushing financial products or services. According to a press release on the event, the planners won’t distribute business cards, take names or sell anything.
