Sales Tax Holidays Near You
By Tara Finnegan Coates, August 2, 2012 02:58 PM
If you are in back-to-school shopping mode this weekend (Aug. 3-5), make sure you take in all the possible discounts through comparison shopping, using retailers' coupons and matching prices.
See more: Back-to-school deals.
And there's one more discount you might get this weekend: a sales tax holiday. New Mexico, Oklahoma, Iowa, Missouri, Arkansas, Louisiana, Tennessee, Alabama, South Carolina, North Carolina, Florida and Virginia are all waiving sales taxes for school-related items for all or parts of this weekend. Depending on the state, you won't pay sales tax on school supplies, clothing or shoes. Some states may also apply tax-free shopping to computers and art supplies.
Maryland, Georgia, Texas and Connecticut all have sales tax holidays later this month.
