Using Our Freedom to Make Positive Change

As July 4th came and went yesterday it made me stop and think how similar the correlation is between our country's deep and storied history and helping others hundreds of years later. I must admit I am extremely patriotic! I cry every time I hear Taps, I always place my hand on my heart when I hear our  National Anthem, and I hate to see an American Flag touch the ground. You are now feeling patriotic yourself aren't you?

Freedom

I think it is so important to maintain a sense of our heritage and our humble beginnings. We need to stop and take a minute at each opportunity we have, to recall and uphold all that is meaningful in this great Nation. All that history is what allows us to never be afraid to stand up for what we believe in and never be too timid to speak one's mind. It's called FREEDOM and in my eyes it's a beautiful thing.

We need to collectively use that freedom to work in a positive way to make improvements, have dreams and goals and a plan like all the ones before us had. Life was hard for our forefathers, yet they managed to explore, face each challenge with a spirit of gratefulness knowing they were making a new, good life for themselves and the future generations to come. We need to take a lesson from the ones before us, that gave tirelessly of themselves. They had a sense of adventure, and never hesitated when it came to serving and helping others.

Don't get lost in the shuffle of your everyday life, push your pause button for a minute and explore your options. Renew your sense of awareness about injustice to others, your willingness to be bold, your desire to get a message out. Have a stance, have a platform, think outside the box! Make a decision to lead by example and inspire those around you to volunteer. Years from now July 4th will still be celebrated and we want to leave a legacy that says we helped those around us overcome obstacles, we enabled their dreams and did everything we could with the cards we were dealt to make life better for those now and those who will come after us.

I will close with a quote from the great American Teddy Roosevelt, "Do what you can, where you are, with what you have" and God Bless America!
