Michelle Obama and Harrison Ford: A White House Preview of "42"
By Bill Newcott, April 4, 2013 11:46 AM
Are you as pumped as I am to see 42, the new movie about Jackie Robinson ?
Earlier this week I got to attend a White House event with Michelle Obama, Harrison Ford, Jackie's widow Rachel (who looks amazing at 90), writer/director Brian Helgeland, and Chadwick Boseman.
Boseman plays the baseball legend; Ford plays the man who signed him to play for the Brooklyn Dodgers, Branch Rickey.
In the State Dining Room were high school students from around the country, several of whom got to ask questions.
My own interview with Rachel Robinson appears in the current issue of AARP the Magazine, and she'll also be my guest next week on the Movies for Grownups Radio Show:
For Rachel, the movie has been a lifelong labor of love. "We've been trying to get the film done," she says, "since Sidney Poitier could've played Jackie!"
Here's my videoblog of the White House event:
