Learn How to Spot and Stop Online Misinformation
By Andrew Soergel, October 24, 2022 01:02 PM
En español | We’re hosting a series of webinars to help you spot and debunk false or misleading information online. We’ll also explain how to have productive conversations with loved ones who may be influenced by misinformation during the holiday season.
Nearly two-thirds of adults around the world believe they see fake or misleading information online every week, according to a recent Google-supported study. Older adults are particularly susceptible to digital misinformation, with one study suggesting social media users age 50-plus are responsible for 80 percent of the fake news that was shared during the run-up to the 2016 presidential election, including articles and blog posts including false information or from known purveyors of fake news.
The series will be hosted by Older Adults Technology Services (OATS) from AARP — which helps older adults become more tech savvy — and the News Literacy Project, an education nonprofit. All workshops are free but registration is required.
