Have you seen this commercial from the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute's the "Heart Truth" campaign featuring a can of Diet Coke? I've seen it a few times, and did question whether Coca-Cola really was the right sponsor for a heart healthy campaign...
So, I was not surprised to see this blog post from the New York Times Well blog covering the story and the controversy in its entirety. According to the NYTimes blog, the Center for Science in the Public Interest is taking particular offense to the Diet Coke sponsorship of the Heart Truth campaign, comparing it with a cigarette company sponsoring an anti-smoking ad. Wow! Coca-Cola defended it's involvement with the campaign, saying they've helped raise awareness of heart disease in women, and offered heart health screenings across the country.
