Each year, four million people 65+ years live on less than $10,000 a year. These same people often have to choose between eating, buying medication, and other necessities, often neglecting their hunger. Over the past year, AARP Foundation and Drive to End Hunger have been hard at work to raise awareness for senior hunger.
Jim Moret, last year's Classy Award host, explained that "the Most Effective Awareness Campaign award goes to the organizations with campaigns that continuously sound the alarm and make it impossible to ignore the issues that plague our community and the people who so badly need assistance."
During the Drive to End Hunger campaign, we've used social media, (via twitter, facebook and youtube) traditional television and print media, and the NASCAR fan base organized food and cash donations to provide more than two million meals through local food banks. As a Classy Award nominee, AARP Foundation has a chance to receive media exposure and funding towards our Drive to End Hunger campaign.
